March 1, 2000 Via facsimile Joseph Hayes Media3 Technologies, L.L.C. 33 Riverside Drive Pembroke, Massachusetts 02359 Re: Copyright and Trade Secret Violation Dear Mr. Hayes: This letter is a follow-up to our conversation this afternoon. As you know, Symantec is the owner of the I-Gear product, which is an Internet access control product that, among other things, uses an URL filtering list. The copyright to the filtering list is owned by Symantec, and the filtering list also contains trade secrets owned by Symantec. The web page located at http://peacefire.org/censorware/I-Gear/igdecode/ contains hyperlinks to (a) the filtering list that is part of Symantec's I-Gear product, and (b) a "codebreaker" tool that will decode the URL filtering list and provide open access to the information contained in the list. These hyperlinks are in the section of the web page entitled "How to get I-Gear's list". No one has been given a license or permission to make the I-Gear URL filtering list available via the web page listed above, or to decode or disclose the content of the list. The hyperlinks referred to above violate Symantec's copyrights and trade secret rights, and are a violation of the license to the I-Gear product. In our conversation earlier today, I requested that the hyperlinks be disabled. You requested that I send this request in writing, and that I provide a copyright registration for the I-Gear product. This letter is intended as that written request, and as a formal notice that your service is being used to violate Symantec's copyrights and trade secret rights. I will forward a copy of the copyright registration to you when it is available. In the meantime, I would appreciate your cooperation in eliminating the copyright and trade secret violations on your service. Sincerely yours, [signature] Arthur F.
